Managing Your Assumptions Before You Travel Abroad (Japa)

There’s this perception that traveling abroad will solve all your life problems. In all honesty, growing up in Nigeria, traveling abroad is seen as a great step for finding better opportunities especially if you are from a humble background.

Don’t blame anyone, Nigeria will humble you as a youth. It wasn’t until I traveled that I realized a lot of the assumptions I made must be back with hard labor, don’t let anybody lie to you.

Some of the common assumptions are:

- I just need a visa, the visa type doesn’t matter

- All my problems and worries will disappear once I leave Nigeria

- I will blow within 6 months

- I will complete my studies, get a job and live large

- I will change my family and extended family’s life

- I will oppress on social media

All these assumptions are valid and doable, but with TIME and resilience.

2 - Living abroad won’t get rid of your problems

All of you please come closer I have something to tell you. Living abroad will not get rid of your problems. Yes traveling abroad can have a major impact if you know what you are capable of.

Traveling abroad can maximize the opportunities that will come your way, but you must figure out your own version of success.

Be flexible and teachable, Google and YouTube is your friend.

Holding back pre-conceived notions, having an open mind, and being teachable will always be the tools you need to grow no matter the geographical location.
