Born Akinmayokun Awodumila, May D came into the spotlight around 2011 after joining P-Square's Square Records. He quickly became one of the artists people were watching, especially after releasing songs like "Soundtrack" and appearing on P-Square's "Chop My Money."
His voice, dance moves and energetic style made him stand out. But his journey with Square Records did not last forever. In 2012, his relationship with the label came to an end, and May D went on to establish his own label, Confam Entertainment.
He continued pushing, releasing his debut album Chapter One in 2013 and collaborating with some of the biggest names in African music, including P-Square, Davido, Wizkid and Akon.
Then in 2020, another major chapter opened when May D announced his signing with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW). Today, May D represents one of those stories that remind us that the music industry can be unpredictable.
You can have the talent, the hit songs and the right connections, yet still have to fight your way through different chapters of your career. From Square Records to Confam Entertainment, then DMW, May D has continued to find his way back to the spotlight.
And honestly, if you were around during the early 2010s, you already know that May D was not just another upcoming artiste. He was part of that generation that helped shape the sound and culture of Nigerian pop music.
