Nigerian entrepreneur and the mother of music star Davido’s first child, opened up about the intense public scrutiny and emotional abuse she faced after getting pregnant out of wedlock.
Speaking at a side event during the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, Momodu shared the personal struggles that came with her becoming pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar, saying the experience left her mocked and without a voice despite being famous.
She said, "I am a pastor's daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked.
It was crazy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all of that. And for the longest time, I didn't have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn't have a voice."
Sophia said the negativity surrounding the story often drowned out her own voice, adding that she wanted her experience to be better understood.
She also recalled being asked by an aunt to remain silent about the issue because it was considered a topic Black women were not expected to discuss publicly.
According to her, sharing her story through different international platforms helped her realise that she was not alone, as several women reached out to share similar experiences.
