Trump Clarifies Russian Diesel Deal After Legal Questions Over Putin Agreement

Trump Clarifies Russian Diesel Deal: "Not For Us, But For World Markets" — After Legal Questions Over Putin Agreement.

President Donald Trump has clarified his controversial diesel deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin, insisting the fuel is not for the United States, but for world markets.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday amid growing bipartisan backlash, Trump said: "That's a diesel deal. Not for us. That's being released into the world. That's not being released to us. That's a diesel deal that's going to be released into the world for the world market, because the world market suffered with high prices."

He added: "It's not a deal with me. It's a deal for the world."

The deal was announced on October 9 after talks with Putin. According to reports, Russia would supply over 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, another 500,000 tons in November, and 1 million tons immediately thereafter.

Minutes after the announcement, the US Treasury Department said it was lifting sanctions on Russian diesel exports to allow supply to the global market, giving Russian producers a general license until April.

The move has drawn sharp criticism from both Republicans and Democrats. A bipartisan group of senators called on Trump to rescind the deal, saying it will offer "limited to no relief to Americans" and may violate a 2022 law designed to support Ukraine.

The deal comes just three weeks after Congress authorized sweeping sanctions on Russia.

In the UK, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said Trump was "wrong" to attack Zelensky over the matter.
